FAQ

The Headmistress has receive some questions from you and felt that the answers may be of interest to everyone.  As we get closer to the convention, there will be more and she will use this page to communicate the answers to all the Frequently Asked QuestionsFAQ page

Professors

Each Professor now has their own page with their bio and a description of their classes.  You can access this information from the Professors page.

Have You Made Your Hotel Reservation Yet?

Rooms are being booked now at the Embassy Suites and as of January 21, only 65 rooms remain (half of which are two queen beds with pullout sofa suites and the other half 1 king bed with pullout sofa suites). You will not want to miss any after hour activity including study hall where you can sew throughout the night, attend a late night shop hop, and of course, attend our pajama party Show and Tell.  Leave the dishes, vacuuming, food prep and housecleaning behind and relax and sew to your heart’s delight and socialize with friends.  A full cook to order breakfast and Manager’s Cocktail Hour is included with your room rate. There is an exercise area and pool too! You will also be able to check your sewing machine at our machine “coat” check so you don’t have to lug it around the convention center. There will be quilt displays to see and surprises to behold. So, have you made your hotel reservation yet?

The Magick of Giving!

ThimbleThreads Academy received a very generous gift from a unanimous donor offering full tuition to QuiltNebraska 2012 for a first time participant. This does not include hotel accommodations, but does cover full registration for this year convention!

This year's winner is Kris Vierra of Lincoln.  She was excited about winning and, like the rest of us, can hardly wait to attend Thimble Threads Academy!

The Golden Thimble Award

To make your school experience a little livelier, each Hall of Fame house will be competing for the coveted Golden Thimble Award during the convention. Points will be awarded to students for their participation in various tasks such as the challenge, block exchange, friendship exchange, classroom monitors (teachers aides), being a volunteer, putting a quilt in for the Halloween/fantasy display, and much more. Professors and prefects may award or take away points! Take away points, you say, why yes, for instance if you sit at the wrong house table or arrive late to class! Not to worry, it is all for fun and the winning house will have bragging rights forever as well as a lovely golden thimble pin to wear. During lunch and banquets, an update of House points will be announced with the winner being announced at the Graduation Banquet on Saturday night.

So, the more you participate, the more points are awarded. Check out the block exchange and friendship exchange as their directions are already posted. If you make 6 blocks to exchange, that is 6 points for your house. It is that easy! There will be a complete list to earn points published in the near future. Good luck!

Block and Friendship Exchanges Posted

How is your challenge piece coming? I am sure it is designed and may be done, right? Well, if you are not participating in the challenge, you can easily sew a few of the blocks to exchange and make a book cover to exchange with a quilting friend. You will find the directions for both of these exchanges now posted. Why not get a jump on things, get them sewed so you are not rushed that final week before convention. These are very easy and fun and if you are so inclined,  you may want to make more than one! Remember, the more you sew, the more you participate, the more points you gain for your house Challenge!

Coordinators and Prefects

Prefects, Professors and Coordinators have been updated and their email addresses listed for you on the Contacts page.  If you contact them with a question and the answer can not be found on the site, the question and answer will be posted on the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page.  So make sure you check there if you can't find the answer anywhere else.

The Challenges

Prefect Lonnie Lockstitch has been very busy designing lots of Challenges to keep any wintertime bordom away.  We have the Child's Play Challenge Block and the Exchange Challenge Block and now we have the Notebook Cover Exchange!   When you enter these challenges, you get the work and the name of another quilter in the state...a personal link and maybe a new, lifelong friend.  Enter them all and see what fun waits for you.

Join the Fun!

It will take many people to make this convention happen and if you'd like to join the fun, please let us know.  It is being held on the southwest edge of Omaha, right off the interstate, so it's easy to find even if you don't live in Omaha.  If you have an area that you are comfortable working or have experience or it just sounds like Magick to you, contact the headmistress@Quiltne2012.org.
